NEBOSH and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the UK’s Health and Safety Regulator, have joined forces and developed this new one day Health and Safety qualification that shows how non- complex incidents can be investigated effectively. By learning lessons and making improvements, organizations can avoid similar incidents occurring in the future.
This qualification is for anyone who wants to carry out incident investigations effectively. Employers, Supervisors, HSE Champions, Union and Health and Safety Representatives will benefit.
This qualification covers the following topics:
- Moral, legal and financial arguments for investigations
- Human and organisational factors that can contribute to an incident
- The process for investigating incidents
- Positive interview strategies and the barriers to successful interviews
After attending the course will enable you to:
- Independently investigate simple incidents
- Gather evidence including conducting witness interviews
- Produce an action plan to prevent a recurrence of an incident
- Contribute to team investigations for large scale incidents
- Positively impact the safety culture in your organization
FAQs about the NEBOSH HSL Course
What are the Course Entry requirements?
- No formal previous Health and Safety knowledge is required. However, NEBOSH recommends students to have an underpinning knowledge of Health and Safety issues.
- An English language skill level 6 or higher in IELTS, or equivalent is recommended, but not mandatory, for those whom the first language is not English.
How is it assessed?
Inc Inv 1 – The assessment uses video case studies which the learners have to evaluate and identify both positive and negative aspects of the investigation interviews used in the case studies.
What is the duration of the course?
The course is 1 day including the course assessment.
